Touch, The Hague, 2018
In the environmental performance a performer was walking though the space of a big fine arts group exhibition and interacting with the visitors through body contact.
I was interested in introducing a character to this specific social environment which would invite the visitor to participate in a fictional interaction. The aim was to challenge the daily life encounter and to create a moment of transcendence. This was sought to be achieved though the numinous presence of the performer beyond physical and psychological motivations, the negation of cultural agreements on public and intimate, and the very appearance of an intimate experience within a public context. In an extensive preparation phase we explored ways to generate the numinous presence of the character in the performer using body and mind practices and exercised the encounter.
